INSPECTIONS , AND FLOODING AND LICE… OH MY !
|
Summer started with a team from the Stayton Church of Christ cleaning, organizing, and preparing the camp for the 500 campers that would enjoy Camp of the Good Shepherd. Inspectors also came! We were inspected 4 times and passed with no infractions or fines! New regulations will now require us to install a “enclosed toilets and a sanitation filtration system” before next camp season. A big thank you to the team for their exhausting labor to get the camp in shape and ready for inspections and campers, your service was a true blessing! |

| The fourth week of camp, after a wet summer and three days of non-stop rain, our calm creek became a raging river. Camp Director, Iulian, and the men from the Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church dug trenches around the cabins protecting them from imminent flooding. As the waters subsided we hired heavy equipment to dredge the river and shore up our banks to protect the camp from any further flooding threats. Even though two areas of roadway were washed away and needed repair, thankfully, camp was not interrupted! LICE MINISTRY…Oh My! |

Nearly a quarter of our campers this year came to camp with lice. Each week we do lice checks and expect especially during village weeks we will be performing “Lice Ministry”. Lice Ministry is a tender expression of compassion to children who because of difficult hygiene circumstances at home often have no way to combat lice. Many children come from homes with no indoor plumbing, no regular schedule of bathing, and no washing machines. Volunteers discreetly provide lice treatments as a hands-on expression of the love of Christ. At Right: Despite inspections, floods, and lice…the love of Christ abounded at Camp! Special thanks to Bethel Church in Richland, WA for providing enough Bibles for every camper this year! |
