The Community of ChristChurch camp team of 8 women has been working each summer at the Camp of the Good Shepherd in Lotrioara , Romania since 2000. This year the team will work the first week with girls, ages 8-18 from the Turnu Rosu Placement Center , which is an orphanage for children with special needs. During the second week of service the team will embrace the boys with the love of Christ from the Medias orphanage for children with special education needs. The women will work in partnership with Heart of Hope Ministries International's Romanian spiritual ministry staff and volunteers to bring the Good News of hope and healing!

At the Camp of the Good Shepherd the service takes on many forms. Counselor, prayer warrior, leader, janitor, dishwasher, maintenance worker, comforter, medic, referee, confidante and friend. The most important job is to demonstrate the love of Christ and offer encouragement and hope to sustain them in their darkest moments.

The current economy has most of us counting our pennies here in the states and these children are being impacted as well with the downturn in the economy. The children will have few opportunities for encouragement outside the walls of the orphanage. They begin asking about camp in December and they look forward to their week of respite at the camp where they can just be kids, playing, laughing and eating until their bellies are full!
