Our Mission

To embrace orphans, widows and families in desperate need with the love of Christ, ease their suffering, and restore hope.

Our Hope is in the Power of God Working in the Hearts of People...

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

A Tea to Remember Ensures Children Attend the Camp of the Good Shepherd

This past April the Community of ChristChurch camp team hosted “A Tea to Remember” benefit auction and fashion show; to raise funding to cover the costs for children scheduled to attend camp during their two weeks of service this summer. The event included a silent auction, a raffle and the opportunity to meet Fox 12 news anchorwomen Debra Gil who hosted the event, Julie Grauert, and Sophie Soong, and meteorologists, Stephanie Kralevich and Stephanie Ortmann. The five women from Fox 12 News in Portland, Oregon donated their time and talent to MC and model fashions with the team to help them accomplish their goal.

Community of ChristChurch has been sending a volunteer camp to serve at the Camp of the Good Shepherd in Lotrioara, Romania since 2002. This year the team is blessed to minister to the girls, ages 8-18 from the Turnu Rosu Placement Center, which is an orphanage for girls with special needs. During the second week of service the team will embrace the boys with the love of Christ from the Medias orphanage for children with special education needs to bring the Good News of hope and healing to these dear children of Christ!

The current economy has most of us counting our pennies here in the United States and these children are being impacted as well with the downturn in the global economy. The children have few opportunities for encouragement outside the walls of the orphanage. They begin asking about camp in December and they look forward to their week of respite at the camp where they can just be kids, playing, hearing the Good News, laughing and eating until their bellies are full! The guests who attended the event helped ensure each of the children will have their precious week at camp by their generous support. Thank you to all who spent their Saturday afternoon sharing their resources, enjoying tea, fashions and food, celebrating God’s children.

Preparing for Camp of the Good Shepherd

At Left: Pictured are HHMI Board Member and ChristChurch Camp Team Leader, Jill Quiner and her daughter Haley, both wearing this year’s camp T-shirt. Each child that attends Camp of the Good Shepherd will receive this cherished memory of their time at camp.

Even with the uncertain economy, listed below,4 Volunteer Camp Teamsare preparing to travel and serve this summer. As with the fundraising example above, all of our teams have been holding various fundraisers and gathering camp sponsorships. There is still one critical missing component – Our Home Team!

Thank you to Righteous Clothing for providing camp Tshirts at their cost!

Yours in Partnership,

Debbie and Your HHMI Board

Understandably, donations are down for everyone and HHMI has been adjusting to these economic times as well. We are relying on our Home Team to provide sponsorship so that each child scheduled to come to camp will be able. We also ask for your prayer support for campers, staff, and volunteers alike – that the love of Christ will draw each one closer to the true Good Shepherd!
