Georgiana in December of 2008, with her baby and Debbie at the New Mother’s Center.

Georgiana came to the Talmaciu Children’s Home in 1994 at the age of 9. This little bird had already endured neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and abandonment. Considering her early trauma, her resiliency was a testament to the human spirit and the grace of God. Georgi was able to enjoy some normalcy for her life in Talmaciu and at Home of Hope – but she always felt insecure and frightened inside. As she grew older she put on a rough exterior with most everyone – but, I can recall her letting papa Chuck gently wash her hair with lice shampoo at Talmaciu and she would always let me put my arms around her – often coming up to me and laying her head on my shoulder. After completing High School, Georgi moved to Home of Hope where we were able to help her find a stable job and transition to independent living with 3 roommates. When she moved out of Home of Hope I asked her what her dreams were for the next 5 years. I wrote down her exact response, and it was published in our November 2006 newsletter: “I don’t know what God’s plan is for me, only He knows. But, I dream of a family with a loving and understanding husband that respects me; one that won’t cheat on me and doesn’t drink – we just love each other.”

In 2008 Georgiana found herself an unwed mother and no longer able to share the small apartment with her roommates. Thankfully, she chose life for her baby and continued to hope for her future. We helped her find a haven at the New Mother’s Center in August where she could stay for one year. This past January she began dating a man and moved in with him in March. Georgiana’s dreams were that ofmany a young woman but they were stolen away from her by an angry young man that was neither loving or respectful. Sadly, after just two months on May 17th he came home drunk and angry that the baby was crying and he beat Georgiana to death. The police returned the baby to the New Mother’s Center and they called to tell us the shocking news.

We were able to provide Georgiana a proper funeral and burial on May 20 th at which approximately 25 persons, many of our young women and staff past and present from Home of Hope, honored her. Making your way in this world is challenging at best and terrifying at worst especially when you are an orphan. Thank you to those that provided for Georgiana to see the love of Jesus in Talmaciu and Home of Hope. Our hope is that she is resting now in His peace and presence. If you would like to make a donation in her memory all contributions will go to cover her funeral expenses and any extra to Home of Hope.
