Iulian Cindulet, the Director of the Camp of the GOod Shepeherd in Lotrioara, Romania was the special guest speaker for HHMI's Building a Future of Hope with the Good Shepherd event held in October. Iulian shared his personal testimony and spoke about the valuable spiritual mentoring and construction knowledge he has received from the more then 40 volunteer teams he has been privileged to work alongside. In addition Iulian, was able to catch up with past volunteers like, the Juranek and Ziebart families!
Many volunteers and friends hosted Iulian during his month long stay in the Northwest. They took him fishing, hunting, wave-running, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and even Disneyland ! He wishes to express his deepest gratitude for such warm embraces from dear friends!
Praise the Lord for His provision! HHMI had a $20,000.00 dollar matching grant at stake. HHMI raised just over $25,000.00 dollars. The cost to build is $50,000.00. We have nearly all of the money estimated for the building of the new kitchen at Camp of the Good Shepherd! Another highlight of the fundraiser was “craft time” where each table put together gift packs of candy and stickers to be carried over by the Bernhardt family in December and delivered to children in our Village Bible Club program for Christmas!
Camp of the Good Shepherd has faithfully embraced over 3,000 children with the love of Christ since 2001. Each summer sees children from orphanages and very poor families bask in a week of Christian compassion, spiritual nourishment, emotional stability, social welfare, and physical sustenance. To operate our Christian camp we must receive approvals from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and Health Department of Romania. This year is the last year the authorities would approve our little lean-to kitchen and have informed us that we must build and install a commercial grade kitchen to receive authorization for 2008. The October 12 th fundraiser will be dedicated to this critical project. We have volunteers ready to put in the sweat equity next spring and invite you to partner with us and attend the “Building a Future of Hope with the Good Shepherd” fundraiser on October 12 th to provide the critical funding needed for the new kitchen. In order to meet new government health standards the Camp of the Good Shepherd is in need of a new commercial grade kitchen to prepare and serve over 250 nutrious meals daily. It is currently a compact kitchen.
